Key points
- Action is important, but you can't skip doing research
- Familiarize yourself with the problem you’re trying to solve and see what others have already done
- Don’t reinvent the wheel if you don’t have to
- Research with themes in mind
Why do the research?
Up until now, we've talked a lot about why action matters. However, action without knowledge is just as bad as knowledge without action. My recommendation is to do a literature review (or any sort of guided research) before getting into the implementation. It can be quite time-consuming, but it will ground your project and probably save you time in the long-run

KEY THEME 1: The local, national, and global context of single-use items and plastics. What is the current state? Why tackle this issue?
- There is a discrepancy between environmental goals and necessities vs. environmental action in Canada.
- The government has set ambitious goals that are necessary and yet challenging to achieve unless small businesses and community members take action.
- The tide is turning towards the elimination of single-use items and plastics and the time to act is NOW.
